Clyde William Koch, 85, of Overland Park, KS passed away February 10, 2016. Clyde was born in waterloo, IL and raised in St. Louis. He moved to Overland Park in 1967 and resided there until his death.

Clyde enlisted in the United States Marines Corps when he was 17 and served his country in the Korean War. He was wounded in combat at the Chosin Reservoir and received a Purple Heart. Clyde was one of the last China Marines. After his military service he worked in the insurance industry for many years.

He was a member of the KWVA, the Purple Heart Association and the 1st Marines Division. He was very involved in the building of the Korean War memorial in Overland Park, KS. Clyde enjoyed turkey hunting, fishing, reading and traveling.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife Jane Koch, sister Gladys Barker, daughter Vicki Russum and grandson Gregory Cochran. He is survived by his wife Mary Lou Koch, daughter Lori Chael (Mike), sister Wanda Brauer of St. Louis, son-in-law Ed Russum, grandchildren Stephanie Cochran, Kevin and Allison Chael and 5 great grandchildren. Clyde will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Disabled American Veterans; P.O. Box 14301; Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.

Visitation and Services

Visitation will be 9 to 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 16th at the Church of the Resurrection, 13720 Roe Ave, Leawood, KS 66224. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 10 a.m. at the church. Clyde will be laid to rest with military honors at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens immediately following services.
