Cmsgt Harvey Louis Webb

July 15, 1940 — November 12, 2009

Harvey L. Webb, 69, of Merriam, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his loving family Thursday, November 12, 2009 at Shawnee Gardens Nursing Home.

Harvey was born July 15, 1940 to the union of Mary Jane Humphress and Alfonso Eugene Webb, Sr. He was a graduate of Shawnee Mission North High School. He was one of the children cited in the Webb versus Shawnee Mission Schools. The case was won, which allowed black children to attend the public schools in the Shawnee Mission District.

Harvey was baptized at the Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he was a lifelong member. Harvey joined the United States Air Force in April 1960 and retired, after 30 years, in April 1990. During Harvey's military career, he was promoted to Chief Master Sergeant (E9), a rank congressionally capped at no more than one percent of the enlisted population. While in service to his country, Harvey was stationed in Taiwan, Germany, Greece and Thailand as well as two tours of duty in Vietnam. Harvey also had numerous assignments at various stateside Air Force Base locations. After completing his Air Force career; Harvey became the building engineer for Shawnee Gardens Healthcare and Rehab where he served for eighteen years. Harvey was well loved and respected by all who were a part of his family, friends, or coworkers. His thoughtful deeds and actions contributed to the happiness and well being of many people.

Harvey is preceded in death by his father, Alfonso Eugene Webb, Sr., his daughter Yolanda E. Webb, his brother, Alfonso E. Webb Jr. He leaves to mourn his passing: mother Mary Jane Webb of Merriam, Kansas; wife, Sharon S. Webb of the home; two sons Stephan Webb, Eric Webb (Julie); two daughters, Devra Webster (Ron), Allison Webb; three brothers, Jim Webb (Louvenia), Quinton Webb, Victor Webb (Denise); five sisters; Wanda Wilkes (Carl), Cheterria Williams (Eurvin), Mary E. Webb, Kathleen Gabriel (Kevin) all of the Kansas City area, Deborah Stephens (Charles) of Southfield, Michigan; seven grandchildren, Donta Gonzalez (New York), Matthew Marner (Maryland), Kamron Friday, Jordan Friday, Lexa Webster, Tre Webb and Kobi Hinton, all of the Kansas City area; two very special people, Grace and Rob Layton; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other friends.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Grace Hospice, 9233 Ward Parkway, Suite 201, Kansas City, Missouri 64114-3304.

Visitation and Services

Visistation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, November 16 at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, November 17 at the chapel. Burial with military honors will be at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens.
