Codyne J. McDonald, 86, longtime Linwood resident passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 at Hillside Village in DeSoto, Kansas.
Codyne was born at the family farm in Moravia, Iowa, to the late Cody and Grace Luse. She graduated from Simpson College with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. Codyne married George McDonald on October 29, 1949. George preceded her in death on November 8, 1989 after 40 years of marriage.
Codyne was a member of the First Baptist Church of Linwood. She enjoyed volunteering with Vacation Bible School and was known affectionately as "The Cookie Lady". She also volunteered her time at Providence Medical Center.
Codyne is survived by her two daughters, Roberta J. Denney and husband Jesse and Barbara Stringer and husband Randy; a son Michael C. McDonald; favorite family pet, C-Lo; seven grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial contributions in lieu of flowers be made to First Baptist Church of Linwood, 205 W. 3rd Street, Linwood, Kansas 66052.
Visitation and Funeral Service
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, August 4, 2011, at the First Baptist Church of Linwood. Funeral service will be 10 a.m., Friday, August 5, 2011, at the church with burial following at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, Kansas.
