Colonel John “Jack” Hammond

Colonel John "Jack" Hammond, 89, of Merriam, Kansas, passed away July 4, 2012.

Jack was born August 15, 1922, in Lawrence, Massachusetts, to Harry and Eleanor (Squire) Hammond. He graduated from Aeronautical Engineering School in Los Angeles, California. He worked for TWA for 42 years before retiring.

Jack served in the United States Air Force during WW II and the Korean War, retiring after 45 years of service as a Colonel. Jack enjoyed life, and good times spent at the lake with his family and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife Ruth Wolfendon Hammond and his son Bob Hammond. He is survived by five children, 13 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson.

A visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 8, 2012, at the Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory. The Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, July 9, 2012, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. Burial will follow in Johnson County Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions may be made in lieu of flowers to the Wounded Warriors.
