Connie Hutchens, 79, of Sunrise Beach, Missouri died August 19, 2022 in Shawnee, KS at Brookdale Rosehill Care Facility. Connie was born on July 26, 1943, to Paul and Donna (Sixbey) Leavell in Rochester, Indiana and grew up in and around Fulton County Indiana. She helped on the farm as a child and ended up going to Purdue University on a Baton Twirling scholarship, where she obtained a Bachelor’s degree studying Pharmacy & Accounting.
Connie moved to Topeka, KS after college where she met her husband of 48 years at Fleming Foods. Connie and Richard had one son in 1976, and named him Grant Alan. The family moved from Wichita to Topeka, to Oklahoma City where Richard continued to work for Fleming Foods in Produce. Connie stayed at home for a number of years before getting back into accounting at Computerland. In 1996, Richard and Connie retired and moved from Oklahoma City to Lake of the Ozarks, where they enjoyed 20+ years of relaxing life at the lake with each other as well as family. They both enjoyed having Grant and his family, and friends visit in the summers & cherished all the times they had on the lake with their grandchildren.
Connie was an avid Kansas Basketball fan and was very excited to see the Jayhawks win a 2nd National Championship this last year. She enjoyed entertaining company at the Lake, reading an entire book in a day, and keeping up on social media. Connie loved spending time & spoiling her three grandchildren: Jace 13, Mia 10, and Finley 8, as well as her daughter-in-law, Pam.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 23, 2022 at Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203. Family will provide food and drink immediately following the service at Transport Brewery, 11113 Johnson Dr, Shawnee, KS 66203.
Connie is preceded in death by her husband, Richard Hutchens who passed away in March of 2021 in Sunrise Beach, MO. She is also preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Donna Leavell. Survivors include her son, Grant (Pam) Hutchens; 3 grandchildren – Jace, Mia, & Finley, as well as a sister-in-law Jan Bartlett and her husband Myron (Sunrise Beach).
