Dan Straka, of Lenexa, died July 26, 2021, at age 84, after a brief stay at Kansas City Hospice.
He was the son of George and Elizabeth (Checkon) Straka and the youngest of seven siblings. All predeceased Dan.
Due to the Depression, Dan was the first in his family to graduate from high school and complete several years of college. After a brief stint serving the Army, Dan became employed in the packaging industry, working his way up from an entry-level position to a Sales Manager. Dan was dedicated to working hard and was proud of his ability to support his family.
Dan married Beverly McCammon and they were raising two sons. Beverly died after an unexpected illness while their sons were quite young.
Dan later married Judy Potter who has two daughters and they began raising a blended family.
Dan is survived by Judy, his wife of 45 years, sons Paul and John, and daughters Jennifer and Molly, along with their five grandchildren.
In August of 2020, Dan was diagnosed with rare cancer, saying "it is what it is". His treatments were not debilitating and only in the last weeks was Dan in physical and cognitive pain. He soldiered through to the end.
A memorial service will be announced at a later time. The family appreciates Dan's care by the University of Kansas Hospital and their Cancer Center, along with care from Kansas City Hospice.
