Daniel Hedges Wheatcroft Sr., born on October 19th, 1922 in St Louis, Mo. passed away on October 15th, 2014 with his family at his side.
Dan received a BSE at Culver Stockton College in 1948 and finished his graduate studies at Washington University in St Louis, Mo. His academic endeavors were interrupted by WWII as he entered the US Army Air Corp from 1943 - 46 as a member of a B-17 fighter crew.
Starting in 1951 and continuing for the next 36 years he dedicated his life to Scouting, with the last 19 years spent as leader of the Boy Scout movement in Kansas City.
Dan left a lasting legacy through his leadership; he had an impact on a quarter of a million youth and nearly 100,000 volunteers.
He led a successful 4 million dollar capital fund drive, realigned the districts of the Council for more effective service by volunteers and professional staff, and significantly expanded the Council's trust fund. It was through Dan's leadership that the Kansas City Area Council and the Kaw Council were consolidated in 1974, making the new Heart of America Council the 13th largest in America.
He was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity, a member of the Sons of the American Revolution, a 32nd degree Mason, recipient of the "Human Relations" award by Dale Carnegie Club International, and recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award from the Boy Scouts of America for distinguished service to youth.
Dan has joined "Ginny," his beloved wife of 66 years. They are survived by their three children: Janet Wickham, Ginger Waters and Daniel Wheatcroft Jr.; five grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
There will be a service for family and friends on Monday, October 20th, 9:00 am at St. Lukes Episcopal Church, 5325 Niemen, Shawnee, Kansas.
