Darcel K. Jones

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Darcel Jones on October 13th, a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Darcel’s life was a testament to warmth, kindness, and the many little joys that made her smile.

Raised by Bernie and Richard Thorp, Darcel grew up with a deep sense of compassion and integrity, which she carried into every part of her life. She was a loving mother to her sons, Brian and Adam Jones, and a devoted mother-in-law to Ashley Jones. Nothing made her happier than time with her grandchildren—Andrew, Bradley, Blake, and Brexton—each of whom she adored beyond measure. She found companionship and joy with her loyal cat, Rocco, who was always by her side.

Darcel is survived by her brother Terry Thorp, sister Kim Anderson, and her nieces and nephews. She loved gathering with family. 

Darcel found beauty in life’s simplest moments. She loved decorating her tree with seasonal themes, rooting for her Chiefs and Royals, and relaxing with a quiet bath surrounded by tea lights. She was known for her “spicy” personality, holding true to her opinions with a gentle but unshakeable spirit. Most of all, she cherished family, often calling just to check in, offering her love and a listening ear.

Those who knew Darcel will forever carry her memory in their hearts. Her life was a gift, and in honoring her, may we continue to share her love, kindness, and dedication to family.

Services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 with a visitation from 9:30-10:30am, followed by Mass at 10:30am, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Shawnee, Kansas.
