David Wesley Guthrie

David Wesley Guthrie, 71, Shawnee, KS passed away Monday, Oct. 16, 2023,  at the University of Kansas Med. Ctr., Kansas City, KS. A visitation will be 12-1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 1:00 pm, Saturday, Oct. 21 at Advent Lutheran Church, 11800 W. 151st Street, Olathe, KS 66062. Dave was born May 29, 1952, in Marion, IA to Donald and Betty (Keeler) Guthrie. He graduated from Van Meter High School, Van Meter, IA in 1970. He was a US Navy veteran, serving four years during the Vietnam War.

On May 17, 1975, Dave married Sheila Puhrman in Sheldon, IA and had two children, Mike and Kristy.

Dave started in the garage door industry in 1968 working for Adams Door in Iowa. In 1995, the family moved to the Kansas City area and he became owner of Raynor Garage Doors of Kansas City.

Dave enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time at the lake with his family. He was very funny, a great storyteller and a mentor to so many people through the years. His greatest joy was being a proud Papa to his four grandkids.

Dave is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sheila Guthrie; son, Mike (Amy) Guthrie, Spring Hill, KS; daughter, Kristy (Kevin) Brock, DeSoto, KS; four grandchildren, Colin, Logan, Kaleigh, and Gracyn; his two very most favorite puppy girls, Sadie and Bella; sister, Diana Carson, Altoona, IA; brother-in-law, Dennis (Nancy) Puhrman, Lake Park, IA; and five nieces.
