David Milton Hendricks

May 28, 1929 — July 17, 2013

David Milton Hendricks, 84, of Overland Park, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at St. Luke's Hospital.

David was born May 28, 1929, to the late Fred and Osca Hendricks in Wichita, Kansas. After graduating from Hamilton High School in 1947, David attended Kansas State University before serving four years in the United States Air Force. After his discharge from the service, David earned a Bachelor's degree in business administration from Emporia State University.

On July 31, 1972 in Olathe, Kansas, he married Marilyn Miller, she survives of the home. David loved playing country music and was an active member of the Kansas Oldtime Fiddlers and Pickers. He enjoyed playing his fiddle in local VFW and American Legion Halls. David knew no strangers, and would help anyone that needed a hand. While working for the GSA, David was often looked upon to be the advocate for his coworkers and friends. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. David enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren working on cars, building tree houses and cooking breakfast with lots of laughter.

David is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Marilyn; three step daughters, Debra Stepp and husband Larry, Diane Blackwood, and Denise Sanderson and husband Jim; four grandsons, Chad Bleier, Scott Bleier and wife Lynzee, Brian Bleier, and Matt Sanderson; five granddaughters, Britta Blackwood, Jessie Blackwood, Nicole Gruber and husband Byron, Jennifer Ransom and husband Neal, and Jamie Sanderson; three great grandsons, Preston Gruber, Caden Bleier, and Kane Bleier; and three great granddaughters, Alexis Gruber, Brenna Bleier, and Brinya Bleier.

Celebration of Life Service

A Celebration of David's life will be 1:30 p.m., Sunday, July 28, 2013, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas 66212.
