David R. Muro

1934 — 2023

David passed away at Delmar Gardens (Lenexa) on Oct. 3, 2023.   He was born in Mitchell Nebraska on April 3, 1934.

David graduated from Manual High School and also attended college at Rockhurst College. He served in the military (USMC) Corporal in Korea with the 6th Regiment.

He was married to Esther (Parra) Muro in 1956 and then to Juanita (Coyazo) Muro in 1979.

He was proud to be a Marine and was a part of several Marine Leagues, GI Forum as well as the Shawnee VFW.  He wanted to make sure veterans received the best benefits and was a part of many fundraising events.  He served on the color guard and was also involved in the Knights of Columbus.   He was a parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church.

He worked for Sante Fe railroad for 45 years as an accountant.  He was as a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.  He had a passion for family history and genealogy and loved to tell family stories.  He loved to watch Chief football games with the family and enjoyed family get togethers.  He loved his cat.

He was tenacious and had a strong-willed character He loved CNN and war movies and was very involved in community fundraisers for the GI Forum.  He participated in the color guard for funerals and events as well as parades.

He is preceded in death by his father. Antonio Muro and Mother Maximina; brothers, Benacio, Casimiro, Daniel, Silbert, Benjamin, Frank, Ruben, Moses; Sisters - Rachel, Nick, Bessie, his wife Juanita (35 years), and his son-in-law Mark Thomas.

David has remained close friends with his first wife Esther Muro who he has two children with:

Surviving is one sister Naomi Muro.

Surviving daughters are Carol Turner (Husband Mike) and Teresa Thomas.

Grandchildren are Christopher Turner, Natalie Britt (Husband Isaac), Anthony Mitchell, Felicia Tomas & Mark Thomas Jr.

Great Grandchildren - Logan Turner, Melodie Carroll

He leaves many nieces and nephews and cousins.

You will be missed by your loving family, Dad. We were blessed to have you, may you rest in peace and find comfort in heaven.
