David Ray Thomas, known affectionately as Raybird, was born on December 23, 1957, in Kansas City, Kansas. He passed away on March 28, 2024, in Shawnee, Kansas. He was a beloved son, brother, uncle and friend.
Ray lived a life filled with diverse experiences. He dedicated 43 years of his life working at Water District and also served in the United States Marine Corps from 1976 to 1980. His interests included woodworking, history, and enjoying the great outdoors. Ray was particularly fond of spending extensive time crafting his outdoor rock house during his prime years. He was renowned for the mischievous adventures he shared with his twin brother, Matthew Roy Thomas.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ray H and Frances Liestman Thomas and a brother, Forrest.
Surviving Ray are his twin brother Matthew "Roy" Thomas, sisters Tina Webb (Jay) and Mary Ann Thomas-Henderson (Jerry), nephews and nieces Matthew (Resa) Thomas, Michael (Shelly) Thomas, Allie Henderson and two great-nephews.
A visitation to honor Ray's life will be held on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the Amos Family Funeral Home from 5 to 7 pm, with Military Honors at 5 pm. The family expresses profound gratitude to Phoenix Hospice and Clover Care Home who treated Ray with warmth, care and kindness throughout their time with him. Though Ray's journey in this world has come to an end, his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, Raybird.
