Delbert Dale Krause

March 11, 1939 — October 11, 2021

Delbert (Del) Dale Krause, 82, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away Monday, October 11, 2021.

Del was born on March 11, 1939, in Washburn, North Dakota, the son of the late Fredrick and Magdalena Krause. He later moved to Portland, Oregon, as a teenager. When he was an adult, Del joined the Army and later moved to San Francisco for work, where he met Frances Butler. They were married for more than 40 years and had two sons. They lived in Pleasanton, California, surrounded by loved ones and friends, where they made their home for nearly 10 years.

After living in the San Francisco bay area, Del moved his family to the Midwest and settled in Overland Park, Kansas, in 1983 to work at the General Motors Fairfax plant. A retired automobile parts manager, he dedicated his 40-year career to GM, first in Fremont, California, before moving for work in Kansas City.

Besides his dedicated love of cars, Del also liked dogs and cats (of which he had many in his lifetime!), and he enjoyed playing cards, maintaining his yard, going out to eat (especially breakfast!), hosting numerous foreign exchange students from all over the world, and showcasing his teasing humor. When his children were young, he was involved in Boy Scouts, coaching the boys’ soccer and baseball teams, and he enjoyed taking his family out on his boat in the California Delta. During his retirement years, Del enjoyed traveling (especially to Brazil to visit the foreign exchange students he hosted), being a faithful member of the Prairie View Family Church with Josie, his wife of 11 years. Del lived his life with Josie by example. He was a giver, a family man, a planner, a mentor, a listener and friend. He was quick to develop friendships with her entire family. We will miss his spontaneity, charm and lighthearted teasing. After all, it was Del’s signature teasing and sense of humor, and spending time with her extended family.

Del is preceded in death by his sister Delores of California and his first wife, Frances L. Butler Krause in 2008. He is survived by his wife Josie Krause and her 7 children and many grandchildren; son Alan, his wife Sarah and their children Zachary, Henry and Emma Krause; son Brad Krause and his wife Josette and their children Kaelene and Marshall Krause of Texas.
