Delbert E. Powell, 76, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away, Thursday, October 18, 2012 at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Delbert was born November 18, 1935, in Bedford, Indiana, to Brigadier Wilmer and Violet Powell and lived in Omaha before moving to the Kansas City area. He worked in the transportation industry for many years. He was a member of New City Church and was a Marine Corps veteran.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughters, Kara and Krista. Survivors include his wife, Cheri; daughters, Diane (Scott) Bandur and Lori (Bob) Byrd; a son, Delbert W. (Holly) Powell; brothers, Walter Powell, David Powell, and his twin brother, Herb Powell; a sister, Donna Rae; eight grandchildren, Jeremy, Ashley, Eric, Kendra, Kory, Hannah, and Tabatha and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m., Monday at New City Church in Shawnee. Visitation will be 4 - 6 p.m., Sunday at the church. Burial in Resurrection Cemetery.
The family suggests contributions to The Salvation Army or the Shriner’s Children’s Hospitals.
