Dennis E. Stittsworth, 69, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away March 14, 2013, at his home surrounded by family.
Dennis was born June 8, 1943, in Junction City, Kansas, to Arleen and William Stittsworth. He married the love of his life May Hartung on August 18, 1963. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology from Kansas State College of Pittsburg.
Dennis had a distinguished career of 37 years at Honeywell Federal Manufacturing & Technology for the Department of Energy's National Nuclear Security Agency (NNSA). He had great pride and interest in national defense and contributed significantly to its technology and security. Dennis is remembered by those who worked with him for his commitment to excellence and respectful leadership which inspired his coworkers, subordinates, and peers.
Dennis was recognized for his career excellence and served on the board of directors for Kansas Innovation Corporation, Kansas City Manufacturing Network, Consortium of Advanced Manufacturing International and the Pittsburg State University President's Industrial Advisory Borard.
Dennis had a passion for living his life fully with his beautiful wife, family, and friends, a love for learning new things, and enjoying the adventures life brought him. He was an adoring and proud father and Papa who loved watching his children and three grandchildren grow. He cherished the times he spent with Amelia, Ben and Ava, always ready to drop everything to be part of their activities and lives. Most importantly, he felt that his life experiences were most real when they were experienced with his loving wife, May. In their retirement, Dennis and May were fortunate to experience the world through international travel. Dennis enjoyed building special memories with his family on the water at their favorite lake, shared time working on cars with his son, and going on long drives in his Corvette with May. His hobbies included reading, and cheering on his favorite teams, the KU Jayhawks and Kansas City Chiefs.
Dennis will be missed by is loving wife of 49 years, May; daughter Valerie (Kurt) Weiland of Prairie Village, Kansas; son Michael (Kim) of Charlotte, North Carolina; three grandchildren Ben and Ava Weiland, Amelia Stittsworth; mother Arleen Stittsworth; sister Cheryl Bickley of Corona, California; and brother Jeff Stittsworth of Peoria, Arizona.
A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday March 19, 2013, Village Presbyterian Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, Kansas; Reverend Tom Are, Jr. will preside. Reception immediately following the service at the church. Graveside service will be held at Welcome Cemetery, Alta Vista, Kansas.
