Dennis Raymond Winsor 74 of Shawnee, KS passed away March 9, 2022 at home. Dennis was born in Davenport, Iowa on September 15, 1947 to the late Vera Marie Meye and Donald Raymond Winsor. In 1961 the Winsor's moved from Davenport, Iowa to Leavenworth, Kansas.
Dennis is a veteran of the Vietnam War, he served honorably in the United States Army stationed in Saigon. He received a Bronze Star Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. Dennis had a lifelong career with the Internal Revenue Service and the General Services Administration, retiring in 2003.
Dennis was a beloved husband to his wife of 49 years, Laura Winsor. Dennis is survived by his sister Tammy Krejci and brother Kenneth Winsor. Dennis will be deeply missed by his niece and nephews Daniel Toney, Noah Toney, Morgan Sanders and Stephen Sanders. He is also survived by a group of life long friends and colleagues.
Dennis kept busy after retirement, he enjoyed auto racing, golfing, billiards and sailing. He traveled to many Formula 1 car races with his friends. They would come for the time trials and stay until the race was finished. As an avid golfer, Dennis played weekly and was in the GSA golf league too. At heart Dennis was a pool shark, he was involved in two leagues and played pool twice a week. Dennis loved to sail, he kicked off his retirement by sailing to Australia for three weeks.
Dennis was a huge Kansas City Royals fan and season ticket holder. He religiously watched his Royal's from opening day to the end of the season. He always wore blue attire throughout the summer as a nod to his favorite team. During football season Dennis followed every game the Kansas City Chiefs played. He also enjoyed watching KU Jayhawks Basketball too.
Dennis was a great friend to his pet companions. Over the years Dennis had English bulldogs, bull terriers and parrots. He made sure they always had the best of everything. He felt especially close to the bull terriers because they lead an active life like he did.
His graveside service will be held at 1:00 P.M. Friday, April 8, 2022 at Johnson County Funeral Chapel and Memorial Gardens, Overland Park, KS.
