Dessie “Jo” Kinzie

Dessie "Jo" (Turner) Kinzie died on February 21, 2020 in the home.

Jo was born on June 28, 1929 in Canyon, TX to Lester and Victoria Turner. She lived in Texas for most of her early years.

She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1947. She enjoyed playing in the orchestra in high school. She also enjoyed playing the piano.

She was married to Ed Beach prior to his death, and their union produced one son, Edwin Beach. He survives, as do his two children, Adam and Eric.

She married David Franklin Kinzie on December 1, 1972 in Albuquerque, New Mexico. During their marriage, she enjoyed working as a bookkeeper.

In the early years of their marriage, Jo enjoyed square dancing, sewing, knitting, crocheting, reading, and accompanying the children to their various activities which included Job's Daughters, DeMolay, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, as well as many different sport practices and games. She enjoyed sewing clothes for the children, and knitting and crocheting afghan blankets.

She was active in church, and enjoyed singing in the church choir. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Social Order of the Beauceant, and the American Legion Auxiliary Post 41.

In her later years, her sight was failing due to macular degeneration, and so she enjoyed listening to the TV and radio. She also helped maintain her household, and helped her husband maintain their land. She spent countless hours gardening, and enjoyed that very much.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Peggy "Jane" Norman, an infant sister Nancy Beth Turner, and a stepson, Steven W. Kinzie.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, David F. Kinzie, three stepchildren, Gwen Cannova-Kinzie (Michele), Brenda Beck (Michael), and Kevin Kinzie (Kathy). She is also survived by 6 grandchildren-David Travis, Rayna Wood (Chris), Kayleigh Shepherd, Tara Shepherd, Kyra Kinzie, and Kyler Kinzie, 5 great- grandchildren, 2 nieces, Juli Hales, and Susan Norman, two great nephews, and one great niece.

She will be remembered fondly by all who knew her.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 14th at 1:00 PM at Amos Family Funeral Home at 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS. Burial at Leavenworth National Cemetery on Monday, March 16th at 10:00 AM.
