Dewey Hassenplug

Dewey L. Hassenplug, 85, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away May 28, 2013.

Dewey was born November 4, 1927, in Valparaiso, Nebraska, to Ralph and Agnes (Bartek) Hassenplug. Dewey spent his childhood in Nebraska until he joined the Army Air Corp in 1945. Upon discharge he settled in Kansas City, where he became a lifelong truck driver for Toedebusch Transfer and its successors, retiring in 1987.

He was united in marriage to his wife Virginia on April 4, 1954, who survives him. He is also survived by his son Michael Hassenplug and grandchildren Steven Hassenplug and Laura Sherrell. Dewey was preceded in death by his children, John Hassenplug and Diane Sherrell.

Dewey enjoyed his time at his cabin at the Lake of the Ozarks and his numerous bowling leagues. Dewey was liked by all who knew him and was appreciated for his dry sense of humor and words of wisdom.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home and Crematory. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013, at Hope Lutheran Church, Shawnee, Kansas. Burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery.
