Dolores "Skelly" Larson

May 6, 1933 — June 9, 2021

Dolores “Skelly” Larson, 88 was born May 6, 1933 in Clinton, Illinois to Jerome and Josephine Skelly. She grew up in Illinois and attended Illinois State University. She graduated with a Bachelors in Elementary Education and Education of Physically Handicapped. She married Dr. Alfred Larson on August 31, 1957. They moved to Mission, Kansas where they raised their nine children.

Skelly attended University of Kansas and obtained her Masters in Special Education and Emotionally Disturbed. She was a dedicated educator that taught special education in the Shawnee Mission Public School system for over 30 years. She was a member of the National Education Association, Kansas Education Association, Council for Exceptional Children and Kansas Council for Children with Behavioral Disorders. She was a member of the Delta Phi Kappa sorority. She was a dedicated educator and devoted member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.

She was a faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church. She and Al built a strong family foundation with nine children, twenty-four grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren. Mrs. Larson, Dolores, Skelly, Mom, Momma, Mema, Grandma was a woman of love and dedication to her family. Her Catholic faith was a pillar of her life guiding her as a woman of strength and determination. Skelly was known for her adoration to the Blessed Mother, Mary. She was a member of the Legion of Mary and participated in making rosaries. She loved reading, playing games and cards, and watching Royals baseball and KU basketball games. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She valued and enjoyed her time living at Welstone Senior Apartments.

She will be deeply missed by her nine children: Kevin Larson (Donna) of Williamstown, NJ, Marirose Larson of Shawnee, KS , Timothy Larson (Lynn) of Overland Park, KS , Joanne Kendall of Round Rock, TX, Danny Larson (Cathy) of Overland Park, KS , Michael Larson (Karen) of Leawood, KS , Katie Stuck (John) of Mission, KS, Nora Tripp (Michael) of Bonner Springs, KS and Tracie Mitchell of DeSoto, KS.

She is preceded in death by her beloved husband Alfred of 54 years, brother Joseph Skelly, sister Mary Chambers and grandson, Brian Kendall.

All services will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 5500 Woodson Rd., in Mission. The visitation will be on Friday, June 11th from 5 - 7 pm. Rosary will be said at 7pm. Mass of Christian burial will be Saturday, June 12th at 11:30 am. .

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks for school supply donations to be brought to the Church to be donated to Catholic Charities and/or donations to St. Pius X Catholic Church.

We also encourage those that are attending funeral services to wear KC Royals attire in her honor.
