Dolores E. Scurlock

October 16, 1929 — May 30, 2023

Dolores Emogene Scurlock, 93, passed peacefully on May 30th, 2023.

A private visitation and memorial service was held on June 10th, 2023 in her honor at Amos Family Funeral Home.

Dolores was born October 16th, 1929 to Charles and Ruby Beach in Kansas City, Kansas. She graduated from Shawnee Mission North in 1948.

Shortly after graduating, Dolores wed Larry Welch and had four children: Michael, Cathryn, Carl and Byonda. Although this union did not last, she was grateful for her four beautiful children.

She married the love of her life, Paul James Scurlock, on August 26th, 1972. She gained seven stepchildren: Paul Jr., Daniel, Ernestine, Jon, Jack, David and Ja.

Dolores enjoyed several hobbies, especially during her later years. She was a passionate animal lover and owned countless pets throughout her lifetime. She had an affinity for small white dogs and it brought her even more joy to spoil them. Reading was a huge part of her life and combined with her faith it encouraged her to read through the Bible on more than one occasion. She also was very crafty and found a way to put flowers on just about anything.

She will be remembered by everyone for her delightful and sweet personality. No matter what happened, she was always calm and effortlessly positive. She appreciated small gestures and was grateful for things that often went unnoticed by others. At the end, her bravery and excitement to join God filled us with warmth and comfort for her journey home.

She was preceded in death by her son, Michael; her husband, Paul and five stepchildren: Paul Jr., Ernestine (Swimley), Jack, David and Ja (Hersh).

She is survived by her daughters Cathryn (John) Wanner, of Overland Park, KS and Byonda; son Carl (Karen) Welch of Council Bluffs, IA; Stepsons Daniel (Sharon) Scurlock of Rochester, NY and Jon (Pam) Scurlock of Decatur, IL; granddaughters Wendy, Jennifer, Katie and Jaeda; grandsons Kenny and Matthew and many great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in her name may be made to Wayside Waifs so we can help animals in her honor.
