December 3, 2008 — August 19, 2024

Shawnee

It is with heavy hearts and fond memories that we announce the passing of Dominic Ashton Canas - affectionately known as Dom — on August 19, 2024, in Shawnee, KS. Born on December 3, 2008, in Merriam, KS, Dom packed a lifetime of love, laughter, and friendship into his 15 years.

Dom was active and involved with different sports teams from a young age. Whether it was on the baseball field, grappling on the wrestling mat, or perfecting his swing on the golf course. Dom looked forward to every trip with his dad rooting for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Braves and traveling with his family to Phoenix, AZ for spring training. Dom approached everything with boundless enthusiasm and an infectious smile. His love for sports was rivaled only by his ability to lift everyone's spirits.

Dom attended Clear Creek Elementary, Monticello Trails Middle School, and Mill Valley High School in the De Soto School District. A proud member of Between the Lines Academy (BTL), Midwest Giants, and a Varsity letterman in wrestling for the Mill Valley Jaguars, Dom exemplified what it means to be a team player and a friend. He cherished every moment spent with his friends and family, leaving behind a legacy of laughter, strength, and a few epic pranks.

Dom was great with kids and enjoyed working at Urban Air in Lenexa, KS. Inspired by his brother Isaac, he expressed interest in pursuing a career as a firefighter or a field that allowed him to serve others with his contagious and caring spirit.

Dom is preceded in death by his beloved Grandma Antonia Canas, his Uncle Carlos Canas, his Great-Grandma Ruth Moore, and his Uncle Jimmie Dean. They surely welcomed him with open arms and maybe a heavenly wrestling match or two.

Left to celebrate his remarkable life are his parents, Julio and Kristie Canas, his brothers, Isaac and Miqueas, and his fat boy, King. His maternal grandparents, Ron and Glenda Yates, and his paternal grandpa, Jose Canas, will miss his radiant personality, smile, laughter, and competitiveness when playing board games. Many aunts, uncles, and cousins will forever cherish the memories they share with Dom.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, September 2, at The Farms at Woodend Springs, located at 14100 Woodend Rd, Bonner Springs, KS 66012. Visitation will take place from 1-3 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life from 3-5 PM.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Dominic Canas Memorial Fund. Your generosity will help keep Dom's spirit alive in the hearts of all who knew him.

Dom, you may have left the field, but your game continues in the stories and memories we've shared. Rest easy, Champ, until we meet again.

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)
