Donald Dean Carter

October 19, 1920 — September 21, 2013

Donald D. Carter, 92, of Lenexa, passed away Saturday, September 21, 2013, at the Kansas City Hospice House.

Donald was born October 19, 1920, in Winchester, Kansas, to the late Arthur and Lela (McConnell) Carter. After graduating high school Donald married the love of his life Eloise Wray. She preceded him in death on January 19, 2010, after 69 years of marriage. In July of 1942, Donald was drafted during World War II in to the United States Army and served with the 65th Coast Artillery, Anti-Aircraft before attending Officers Candidate School. He served overseas in Milne Bay, New Guinea, and Luzon, Philippines. He was discharged in July 1946 at the rank of Captain.

Donald worked for AllState Insurance for over 30 years before retiring in 1984. Donald enjoyed watching birds, growing flowers, playing cards, and making friends with everyone he met.

He is also preceded by a son, Ronald; two brothers, Charles and Chalmer.

Donald is survived by his daughter Linda Barker and husband Ed; two grandsons, Robbi Carter and Kenneth Carter; three granddaughters, Jennifer Carter-Painter, Lindsay Barker and Kristin Barker; an aunt, Ola Mae Jaedicke; sister in law, Sandra Haar; three great grandsons and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Celebration of Life Services

The family will celebrate Donald's life at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 25, 2013, at the Overland Park Presbyterian Church, 8029 Overland Park Drive, Overland Park, Kansas 66204; followed by Happy Hour at Garden Villas of Lenexa at 3:30 p.m. Donald will be laid to rest in a private family service at Plum Grove Cemetery, Winchester, Kansas.
