Donald A. Daley was born on November 7, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois. He passed away peacefully on March 16, 2018 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was 88 years old.
Don graduated from Plano High School, Plano, Illinois in 1947. After high school, he served our country for 20 years in the United States Air Force. Throughout his years of service, he flew many different aircraft. During the Korean War he flew a C-119, also known as the "Flying Boxcar". In the late 50's and early 60's he piloted B-47 bombers followed by the C-141 Starlifter in the mid 60's. Following his military career, Don served our neighborhoods for 20 years as a mail carrier for the US Post Office.
Don was always very active during his 88 years. He enjoyed family gatherings and always got rave reviews for his world-famous pancakes. He truly never met a stranger, his friendly, charismatic nature allowed him to strike up a conversation with anyone, anytime, anywhere on almost any subject. He was the type of person that always put the needs of others before himself. He will be missed greatly by family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Phyllis Daley of Lenexa, KS, by sons Steve Daley and wife Kate of Roeland Park, KS, Dan Daley and wife Bonnie of Salina, KS, Gary Daley and wife Vivianne of Arlington, TX, his grandchildren, Zach Daley, Kyle Daley, Brandon Daley, and Lauren Daley and two great-grandchildren, Reese and Luke Daley. He was preceded in death by son John Patrick Daley (April 13, 2015).
The memorial service will be at Amos Family Funeral Home at 10901 Johnson Drive Shawnee, KS on Thursday March 22, 2018 at 1pm.
