Donald Wayne Jeter, 81, Shawnee, KS passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at his home with his family by his side. Don was born April 7, 1933 in Hannibal, MO to Lee and Mayme Jeter. He graduated from Hannibal High School in 1951. On Oct. 11, 1953, Don married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Beckett. Don was a veteran of the US Navy during the Korean War. Following his time in the service, Don started working as an engineer with the Union Pacific Railroad, retiring, after 44 years, in 1995.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Shirley Jeter; son, Brad (Pam Craven) Jeter, Lenexa, KS; daughter, Rhoda (Mickey) Hamilton, Shawnee, KS; two brothers, Howard Jeter, Kansas City, MO and Bob Jeter, Nashville, TN; three grandchildren, Amy (Lucas) Bell, Kayla Jeter and Katy Jeter and one great grandson, Felix Bell.
Memorial services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, April 26, 2014 at the Overland Park Baptist Temple, 11648 Antioch, Overland Park, KS 66210. Inurnment will be 10:00 am Friday, April 25 at the Leavenworth National Cemetery with Military Honors.
