Donald "Don" Joseph Meinert, 68, passed away Sunday, July 25th, 2021 at his home in Merriam, Kansas.
Don was born and raised in Kansas City Missouri in May of 1953 to Eugene Meinert and Marian Harris. He also had a brother, Bobby Meinert, who passed away in 1977.
In June of 1971, Don joined the Army and began his basic training at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. He accomplished eight years of active service where he was stationed at various places globally. The location he enjoyed being stationed at the most was Germany, where he loved to tell stories of how he met other Meinerts over there. He received several medals, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal.
Don had so many joys throughout the various stages of his life, be it music played at high decibels or cracking a good joke to break the tension in the air, but perhaps his most favorite times, in his later years, were spent with his wife and their fur babies, as well as sitting out on their front porch waving and greeting everyone with a smile as they passed by him. His positive demeanor to passers by quickly made him a legend in the retirement community and he will be missed by the MANY lives he impacted with his positive daily gestures.
He leaves behind his wife of 24 years, Kathryn, his son, Joel (Crystal) Meinert and their three children, his three step daughters, Jamie, Carla, and Cristy and three children between them. He also leaves behind his step mother, Ellen Meinert, his sister Jeanette Keepes, his brother, Ronnie (Linda) Meinert, and numerous loved nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held in honor of Don on Saturday, August 28th, 2021 at the Amos Family Funeral Home from 2-4 pm.
