Donald E. Shockey, 87, of Lenexa, KS passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Olathe Hospice House.
Donald was born July 8, 1931 to the late Harry and Irene Shockey in Newman Grove, Nebraska. He enlisted in the US Army and served in the Korean War. On September 29, 1956 Donald married Ruth E. Marsh in Kansas City, KS. She preceded him in death on September 20, 2018, after almost 63 years of marriage. Donald was a member of the American Legion Post #370, UAW Local 710, Locksmith Association of America and was a proud owner of Shockey Lock and Key. He was a hard worker and dedicated husband who worked until he had to take time off to tend to his ailing wife. He enjoyed dancing to country music, enjoyed tending to his rose bushes, knew his way around the engine of a car, and was cool enough to use Snapchat.
Donald is also preceded in death by a son, Thomas, a daughter, Patricia, a granddaughter, Melanie, four brothers, Carroll, Orville, Kenneth and Frank; two sisters, Beverly Inman and Dorethea Rhodes. He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl Chaney; two sisters, Linda Emmons and husband Roger; Carla Pittman and husband Ron; brother, Richard Shockey and wife Doris; seven grandchildren, LeeAnne Huntsman; Marti Alvarez and husband Marcos; Justin Shockey; Matthew Shockey; Paul Jones; Miranda Chaney; Mataya Chaney; five great grandchildren, Olivia Huntsman; Octavia Shockey; Abigail Alvarez; Chloe Alvarez; Jaxxon Alvarez and a great great grandson Liam Shockey.
Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, April 7 at the Amos Family Funeral Home, 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, KS 66203. Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 8 at the funeral Home. Donald will be laid to rest with military honors at Shawnee Mission Memory Gardens following services.
