Donald “Coach” Stevens

Donald "Coach" L. Stevens, 70, of Kansas City, Kansas passed away February 25, 2009 in the home surrounded by his loved ones.

Don was born August 12, 1938 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma to Robert E. and Lois I. Stevens. He was a plumber by trade and owned a home-based business, Special T. Company, for 27 years. His passion was the sport of skeet shooting. He began shooting in the 1960's and taught the sport for 30 years. He was inducted into the National Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame on October 6, 2008. Don was the recipient of the Ray Boller Award for outstanding contribution to the sport of skeet.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Stevens, his sister Beverly Stevens, his grandson Kyle Stevens, and his great-granddaughter Mikayla Langford. He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Vickie Stevens of Kansas City, Kansas; his daughters, Stephanie Stevens of Stover, Missouri and Linda Walters and husband John of Columbus, Indiana; his sons Randy Stevens and wife Pam of Overland Park, Kansas, Russell Stevens of Rushville, Missouri and Don Stevens and his wife Rhonda of LaCygne, Kansas; eight grandchildren, Meagan Walters of Columbus, Indiana, Amanda Langford and husband Troy of Prairie Village, Kansas, Jennifer Prodoehl and husband Allen of Imperial, Nebraska, Dawn Stevens of Rushville, Kansas, Bradley Stevens of Rushville, Kansas, Bobbie Jo Stevens of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Kevin Stevens of LaCygne, Kansas, and Chancellor Stevens of LaCygne, Kansas; one great-grandchild Brycen Stevens of Jacksonville, North Carolina; two nieces, Tammie Cook and husband Jerry of Overland Park, Kansas, and Angela Penninger and husband Charlie of DeSoto, Kansas.

He will be deeply missed by his family and by all who knew and loved him.

Donations in lieu of flowers should be remitted to the funeral home and will be used to establish a memorial fund in honor of "Coach" and his lifelong pursuit of helping others.

Visitation and Memorial Services

Memorial services will be held Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Visitation is from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a service from 8:00 to 8:30 p.m.
