Donald Henry Voelker

February 20, 1928 — February 6, 2012

Donald Henry Voelker, 83, of Overland Park, passed away Monday, February 6, 2012, at the Sweet Life of Rosehill.

Donald was born February 20, 1928, in Cleveland, Ohio. Donald served in the United States Navy during World War II. After his service Donald graduated from Ohio University, Russ College of Engineering and Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduation he married Margaret Rose Spooner. She preceded him in death after over 50 years of marriage.

He was an owner of Great Bend Industries and DH Voelker Associates before retiring in 1985. After retirement Donald was an active fundraiser for his alma mater and was awarded the Medal of Honor and later the Alumnist of the Year award for his fundraising efforts. Donald was an active member of the Worthless Men's Club as well as the Abdallah Shrine.

Donald is survived by his two sons, Robert Voelker and wife Michelle and Kevin Voelker and wife Lori; daughter Carol Ann Plowman; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.

A celebration of Donald's life will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 11, 2012, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 9948 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, Kansas 66212. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Ohio University, Russ College Department of Engineering and Technology.
