Donald Richard Whitlow

January 8, 1933 — December 1, 2017

Donald Richard Whitlow, 84 passed away on December 1st.  He was born on January 8, 1933 to Henry Clay and Nellie Elizabeth Whitlow in Black Water, MO.  Don was married to Annette Berry on April 4, 1959. They enjoyed a full life together, traveling the country and spending time with family.  He is survived by son, Gary Whitlow (Tammy), daughter, Donna Bernhardt, grandsons, Michael Smithng (Gina), Taylor Whitlow, Trevor Whitlow, great-granddaughter, Jennifer Smith, and siblings, Lois Cramer, Jean Link, Laura Hamilton, Charles Whitlow, Kathryn Ross, and Marilyn  Franz.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Annette, daughter, Deborah Ann Anderson, and siblings Dorothy Hickam and H.C. Whitlow.  Don served in the Vietnam War and retired from the Air Force as Master Sargent in 1973.  After his retirement, he was employed at General Services Administration until 1988.  Don was a member of the Shriners and Wyandotte Masonic Lodge #3.  Upon retirement from GSA, Don and Annette moved to southern Missouri where they built a new home.  Don enjoyed fishing, gardening, and woodworking. After moving back to the Kansas City area, Don was an active volunteer in the Boy Scouts serving as a unit commissioner and supported many boys' successful completion of Eagle Scout.  He was a devoted family man who loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Amos Funeral Home, Shawnee, KS on December 7th from 5:00-7:00 PM.  Funeral mass will be on December 8th at 10:00 AM at St. Peter's and All Saints Episcopal Church on 100 E. Red Bridge Road, KCMO.  Mr. Whitlow will be laid to rest at Leavenworth National Cemetery following the funeral mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the American Lung Association.
