Donna Louise Burger

Donna L. Burger, 87 of Lenexa passed away peacefully on Monday, October 6, 2014. Donna was born October 29, 1926 in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Thomas S. and Rachel (Stickle) Newton. She was a proud graduate of Paseo High School, and had a brief career in business before meeting and marrying the love of her life, Dr. Paul Burger. She and Dr. Paul started their family in Armourdale, and moved to Shawnee after the 1951 flood. As the children got older, among her happiest pursuits was her participation with the Women’s Nine and Eighteen-holers at Milburn Country Club. Occasionally she would brag about her two hole in ones. Other interests included quilting, travel, and gourmet cooking. Donna was predeceased by her husband, her parents, a son-in-law, Larry Fussell, and her only sibling, Richard Newton. She is survived by seven children: David (Paula) and Robert (Gayle) of Lenexa, Paula Fussell of Olathe, Joseph, Gardner, KS, Lisa (Marc) VanMeerhaeghe, Shawnee, KS, Thomas (Beth), Overland Park, KS, Matt (Marie), Shawnee, KS, sixteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. The Family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise of Lenexa for their caring and cheerful attention. We would also like to express special thanks to mom’s most faithful and loyal visitor, Ed Cronin; mom’s true friend, indeed. Donna was a devout Catholic of strong religious beliefs and supported vocations to the Priesthood and religious life.

Visitation will be held from 5-8 pm Thursday at the Amos Family Funeral Home where the Rosary will be prayed at 6:30. Msgr. Raymond Burger, Fr. Robert Burger, and Fr. Frank Burger will concelebrate the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am, Friday at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee. Burial at Resurrection Cemetery, 83rd & Quivira in Lenexa.
