Doris A Sandburg

September 12, 1930 — April 5, 2023

Doris A. Sandburg at The Village at The Woodlands Waterway in Texas, joined her son, Paul A. Sandburg and husband, Milo Sandburg in heaven on Wednesday, April 5, 2023.  She was born on September 12, 1930, in Lockport, New York, to Stacy and Dorothy Aikin and is survived by her son, Mark D. Sandburg.

After graduating from Lockport High School in 1948, Doris attended and graduated from Midwestern Business School in Kansas City, Missouri.  While attending church in Kansas, Doris met Milo who was wearing a red sweater that caught her eye and the rest is history.  Doris and Milo were married on August 6, 1949, in Lockport, NY.  They lived in Mission, Prairie Village, and Overland Park, Kansas, before moving to Virginia and on to Saudi Arabia.  Returning to Overland Park, they then moved to Miami, Florida and from there moved to the Houston, Texas area.

Doris had many different jobs and careers which included, but not limited to secretary, VP of real estate closing, and paralegal.  She was employed by Eugene D. Brown when he first started his real estate company on Metcalf Avenue in Kansas about 1960.  She was also employed by George P. Mitchell, the founder of The Woodlands, Texas.  Doris knew short hand and was a wiz with the adding machine.  She would read a ledger while hitting the adding machine keys at lightning speed with perfect results.

Her love of Bridge inspired her to join many Bridge Clubs in all the places she lived.  She enjoyed many hobbies including crossword puzzles, painting, ceramics, Scrabble and other card games.  Doris and Milo also enjoyed traveling by air, land and sea; on planes, trains, or cruise ships.

Doris is survived by sister-in-law, Rica Irvin and her children, niece, Deb and husband, Eugene Wright, nephew, Chris and wife, Wendy; son, Mark and wife, Eileen, their daughters, Jennifer and husband, Ryan Williams and their children, Avery Lorca, Holden, Hayden, and Jacie Williams; Julie and husband, Alberto Hinke, and their children, Bailey Chapman and Elise Hinke; daughter-in-law, Carol Sandburg and her children, son, Paul Alan and wife, Echo and their children, Camden and Cadence; and daughter, Christine and husband, Jim Hammen, and their daughter, Maisie.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, at Amos Family Funeral Home located at 10901 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas 66203.  Visitation is at 10:30 am followed by a service at 11:00 am.  Burial will be held at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens Cemetery located at 13901 South Black Bob Road, Olathe, Kansas 66062, following the service.

A memorial service will be held at The Village at The Woodlands Waterway located at 2323 Lake Robbins Drive, The Woodlands, TX 77380, on Saturday, April 22, 2023, from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm.
