January 17, 1927 — November 25, 2015

Doris Jean (Pitts) Hydeman, 88, peacefully passed away on November 25, 2015, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Doris was born on January 17, 1927, in Kansas City, KS, the youngest daughter of the late Elmer and Lela Pitts. She is survived by her brother, Dwain Pitts; her four sons: Randall Neal of Kansas City, MO; Kent David and wife Diane of Roeland Park, KS; Scott Alan and wife Lee of Roeland Park, KS; and Craig Stephen and wife Tammy of Overland Park, KS. She also leaves behind 11 beautiful grandchildren: Amy and husband Steve Tatge, Zachary, Matthew, Andrew, Neal, Seth, Britta, Ana, Katherine, and Erik. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Donald Neal Hydeman; sisters, Maxine, Nadine and Lorraine, and brother, Jerry.

Doris grew up in Westwood, KS and graduated from Shawnee Mission Rural High School (today known as Shawnee Mission North High School) where she met the love of her life and soon after married her high school sweetheart, Donald Neal, on April 4, 1945. This year Don and Doris celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in a special renewal of their vows.

Doris was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Shawnee and served on many charity and church committees while raising her loving children. She worked with her lifelong friend, Wilma Martin at Halls and spent a few years working for the Gas Service and Trinity Lutheran Hospital until she retired. More than anything, Doris, along with Don, treasured their time with their family at the lake and at home where together they shared many celebrations. She loved telling stories about her children and grandchildren of past memories full of laughs. Don and Doris shared many hours watching their favorite sporting events and Doris was happy to be here to celebrate the KC Royals successfully take the World Series Championship crown. She will be forever missed for her love and joy of life. The Hydeman family would like to give special thanks to Grace Hospice and Doris's caregivers, grandchildren Andrew, Matthew and Ana Hydeman, along with Elizabeth Erdmann for their loving and compassionate care provided over the past year and half.

The public visitation will be held at 5 - 7 p.m., Sunday, November 29, and funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Monday, November 30 at Amos Family Funeral Home in Shawnee followed by a burial at Johnson County Memorial Gardens, 11200 Metcalf Avenue, Overland Park, KS.
