Doris Little

July 20, 1927 — May 17, 2021

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Doris Lorena Wohlgemuth Little, a life-long Kansas resident, passed away on May 17, 2021 in Shawnee, Kansas at the age of 93.

Doris was born in Kill Creek, Kansas on July 20, 1927 to Robert Jacob and Mary Gladys Wohlgemuth, the fourth of six children. Her father was a Presbyterian minister in a series of small Kansas towns, so her formative years were spent in Bloomington, Holland, Natoma, Kingsdown, Dwight, and Freeport. After graduating from Anthony High School in 1945, Doris attended Wichita University and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Home Economics in 1949. It was also during this time that she met her future husband, Phillip Little. After graduation, Doris taught Home Economics at Lyons High School for two years before returning to Wichita and marrying Phil in 1951, living most of her adult life there.

A devoted wife and mother, Doris also found joy in a variety of activities, including quilting, sewing, weaving, knitting, embroidery, reading, and cooking. She enjoyed social organizations and the many friends she made in Home Ec Club, Cornelius, Eastern Star and the Moose Lodge. She was a dedicated 50+ year member of First Presbyterian Church in Wichita and was active in many of its groups, such as United Presbyterian Women, Mariners, the Luccock class, the Dorcas Circle, and Economy Corner.

Doris was preceded in death by Phil, her loving husband of 58 years. She lived in Sedgwick Plaza for ten years before moving to the Kansas City area to be closer to family. She is survived by her children Kent (Sue) Little, Douglas (Jackie) Little, and Joyce Little (the late Alun Hughes), four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, as well as her sister Lois Goodwin in Colorado Springs, Colorado and brother Dean Wohlgemuth in Jesup, Georgia..

A family graveside will be held Wednesday, May 26, in Hutchinson, KS, and all are invited to a memorial service at 10:30 Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church, 525 N. Broadway in Wichita. A memorial has been established with the church.
