Doris Jean Tilghman, 86, of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away on September 15, 2010.
Doris was born May 5, 1924, in Topeka, Kansas, to Aaron and Dorris (Collins) Ausherman. She attended Topeka High School and met her first husband, Joe Lee Houser in Topeka. He was a B-26 pilot in WWII and was killed on a mission over Germany in 1944. They had two sons: Glen Aaron and Joe Lee Jr. In 1949 Doris married H.F. (Jack) Tilghman of Topeka, who adopted her two sons. They moved to Merriam, Kansas in 1951 and spent the rest of their lives in Johnson County.
She was an avid traveler and was very active in Trailblazers. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, bird watching, painting, and had a lifelong love of animals. She made friends easily and during her last years at Grand Court and Park Meadows, she enjoyed socializing and playing cards with the new friends she made there. "Oma" will be greatly missed by her family.
Doris was preceded in death by Jack and her half-brother, William Cherry. She is survived by her two sons; five grandchildren: Stephanie, Abigail, Michel, Amie Katherine, and Jennifer; 11 great-grandchildren; and half-sister, Donna McFadden of Oregon.
