Doris Vander Woude

Doris Vander Woude, 86, Shawnee, KS passed away Saturday., September. 21, 2019. Doris was born May 12, 1933 in Beresford, South Dakota to Alfred and Tilda (Thorsen) Solem, who preceded her in death. After high school she married her husband of 47 years Albert Vander Woude who also preceded her in death.

Doris is survived by her four children Connie (Carl) Hornbuckle; Don (Pam) Vander Woude; Sherry (Kevin) Vander Woude; Terri (Joe) Elliott; Grandchildren David Earlenbaugh; Christopher (Deanna) Greening; Michael Vander Woude; and Amber Elliott. She is also survived by six great grandchildren, Daylona; Tia; Mila; Kelsey; Alexis and Trevor; her brother Alan (Arlene) Solem, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Doris loved her family and friends very much. She was always positive, friendly, and enjoyed meeting new people. She was a very supportive and giving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Doris through the years, stood by her husband's side throughout his Drag Racing career, better known as the legendary "Flying Dutchman". She was well known at the racetrack where she was personable with all the racing crews and fans. Doris ran the office of a family business and loved traveling in their motor home. She loved to work on crafts, making quilts and shopping. She was always on Facebook staying in touch with her many friends and family. Mom will always be in our hearts and missed forever, but dad's been waiting. We love you!

Visitation will be Friday., September. 27th  from  9 to 10 a.m., followed by a 10 a.m. funeral service with a private burial.
