Dorothy Pauline Christoph

Dorothy Pauline (Hickel) Christoph, 96, of Lenexa, Kansas, entered eternal life on Monday, October 1, 2012, at Sunrise of Lenexa.

Dorothy, the second oldest of eight children, was born December 17, 1915, in Ellinwood, Kansas, to Louis and Katherine (Robl) Hickel. She married Leo A. Christoph, also of Ellinwood, at Sts. Peter and Paul Church, North Ellinwood, Kansas, on May 3, 1938. The couple moved to the Kansas City area in 1940 and to Lenexa in 1950.

Dorothy was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lenexa since 1950 and was a member of the Daughters of Isabella, Circle #421, for whom she served as regent. She was a member of the Ellinwood Historical Society; NARFE, Chapter 1162; and Lenexa Senior Citizen group. In the mid sixties she was one of several women who started the central library at Holy Trinity Catholic School and volunteered there for many years as librarian. Dorothy was a talented seamstress and cook, who also enjoyed gardening, walking and being outdoors. She devoted her life to church and family and to helping others.

Dorothy is survived by three children: Thomas Christoph, Overland Park, Kansas; James Christoph (Janice) and their two children, Michael and Sarah, Kansas City, Kansas; and Mary Lees (Henry), Topeka, Kansas, and their two sons Henry and Raymond of Columbia, South Carolina. There are five great grandchildren, also of Columbia, South Carolina. Dorothy was proceeded in death by her husband, Leo, of 64 years; her daughter, Sister Joel Christoph, OP; brothers, George, Arthur, Martin and Joseph Hickel and sisters Louise Doll, LaVonne Graves and Helen Zink.

The visitation will be from 6-8 pm, Thursday, October 4, 2012, with a Daughters of Isabella rosary at 7 pm at Amos Family Funeral Home & Crematory. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 am, Friday, October 5, 2012, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lenexa. Burial will follow in Resurrection Mausoleum, Lenexa.
