Dorothy Mae Cook

November 26, 1932 — February 18, 2018

Dorothy Mae Cook went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, February 18, 2018. She was born in Beeville, Texas on November 26, 1932 to Rudolph and Vivian Jacobs. She was the third of five daughters. Dorothy spent the first seven years of her life in Texas and then moved with her family to Kansas City, Kansas where she grew up.

She was married to Wilbur Gene Cook on November 23, 1951. They were married for 57 years until Gene's home-going in 2009. Dorothy was a devoted believer and follower of the Lord Jesus Christ whom she trusted as her Savior in her young adult life. She faithfully read God's Word, often reading through the Bible in a year. She was also a steadfast prayer warrior, rising in the early morning hours to spend time with God. She was an active member of her church family and taught ladies' Sunday school classes for many years.

Dorothy enjoyed reading, writing, word games and spending time with her family. She was always called upon to be the family pie maker during holiday seasons. Over the years she enjoyed traveling in the United States, Europe and the South Pacific. She will be remembered for her quick wit and good sense of humor, while never taking herself too seriously.  She leaves behind a legacy of consistently walking with Christ and lovingly caring for and praying for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Dorothy is survived by a sister, Wilma Hammonds of Lebanon, Missouri; son Kelvin G. Cook and his wife Laura of Milo, Missouri; daughter Karin S. LoFaso and her husband Sal of Lenexa, Kansas; son Kerstan J. Cook and his wife Christy of Lenexa, Kansas; daughter Karmen N. Collins and Daryl D'Antonio of Sugar Creek, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Jerod, Matthew, Grace, Christopher, Robbie, Wesley, Savannah and Amanda; eight great grandchildren Makena, Shawn Paul, Bea, Anthony, Ever, Jaxon, Olivia and Cabot.
