Dorothy (Dady) Danko, age 90, died on February 1, 2010.
"Granny," as she was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, will be remembered for her baking, polka dancing, and letter-writing.
Dorothy was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She was the daughter of Anton and Rose (Knoll) Dady. Her siblings were Frankie, John, Ceil, Rose, Chuck, and Tony. Dorothy married Michael Danko in 1942. Early in their marriage, Michael's job with the U.S. Navy took the couple to California. They then returned to Minnesota, where their two children, Barbara and Michael, were born. The family moved to Lenexa, Kansas in 1957. She was an active member of Holy Trinity and St. Joseph Catholic Churches, the Lenexa Senior Center, and the Daughters of Isabella for many years.
Dorothy lived in two wonderful communities in her later years, Bluejacket high rise in Shawnee and Villa Saint Francis in Olathe. Dorothy's family wishes to especially thank the staff and volunteers at Villa St. Francis for their loving care over the past 4 years.
Dorothy is preceded in death by husband Michael and siblings John, Ceil, Frankie, and Chuck. She is survived by siblings Rose Deschene and Tony (Marilyn) Dady; children Barbara (Bob) Slaughter and Michael (Linda) Danko; grandchildren Dana (Roy) Rati, Kara Slaughter, Patrick (Crystal) Danko, Steven Danko, and Kristin Danko; great-grandchildren Eric and Zach Rati and Channing Danko; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Villa St. Francis or Catholic Community Hospice.
