Dorothy M. Hawley, 85, Shawnee, Kansas, passed away Sunday, May 16, 2010, at Sweet Life at Rosehill.

Dorothy was born on April 25, 1925, in Anderson County Kansas the second daughter born of Gus and Fern (Borror) Weiss. She grew up in Anderson County, graduating from Garnett High School in 1942.

Dorothy was a member of Kappa Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi since October 1963 and a volunteer for the American Heart Association. In addition to her volunteer work Dorothy also loved to sew, crochet, read, do crafts and do word search puzzles. She also enjoyed traveling, watching and feeding birds. She enjoyed and looked forward to each holiday with the family. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren play sports and was very proud of their accomplishments.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Rollo E. Hawley in December of 1999, a brother Carl Weiss, and a sister Donna Hale. Survivors include three sons and a daughter Lester (Irene) Hawley, Kansas City, Missouri; Leland (Juliet) Hawley, Overland Park, Kansas, Jacqueline Meeker, Overland Park, Kansas, Jeff (Lee Ann) Hawley, Shawnee, Kansas; two sisters Rose Marie (Doug) Miller, Garnett, Kansas and Mary Ann (Curtis) Umbarger, Garnett, Kansas; sister-in-law Elaine Weiss, Garnett, Kansas; brother in law Jesse "Bus" Hale, Garnett, Kansas; six grandchildren Ryan Hawley, Abe Hawley, Nick Hawley, Private Jason Meeker, Logan Hawley, Natalie Hawley.

The family would like to express their gratefulness to the doctors, nurses and staff of Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Select Specialty Hospital, Timberlake Care Center, St. Joseph Hospital, DaVita Dialysis, Sweet Life of Shawnee Rosehill and Odyssey Hospice.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Odyssey Hospice, Odyssey Hospice, 800 E. 101st Terr, Kansas City MO 64131.

Visitation and Graveside Service

Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2010. at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Garnett City Cemetery.
