Dorothy Ellen (Johnson) Lynch, 96, passed away peacefully at home, August 13, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy along with her twin, Doris Elizabeth, was born on August 3, 1927 to William Lewis and Mary Susan (Willis) Johnson. She will be remembered by her loved ones as someone who loved the outdoors and who could grow just about anything. She was a people person. She loved family gatherings and could be seen often at her grandchildren and great grandchildren’s sporting events. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, who she married on October 10, 1942, by her parents, her twin sister Doris and brothers and sisters; Jasper and James Johnson, Eula Stechmen, Mary Oots, Cleo Johnson, Marie Roettgen, Eugene Johnson, Grace Brayman-Scoby, William John, Jr., Velma Hein, Vivian Piles and her infant twin children, Robert Louis, Jr. and Robbie Sharon Lynch. Dorothy is survived by daughters Joyce Leiker (Vern) of Kansas City, Kansas and Glenna Hummel (Chris) of Cantonment, Florida, nine grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, 16 great-great grandchildren with three more expected soon, and one sister Ruby Hazell (Jim), and many nieces and nephews. The family wants to especially acknowledge her granddaughter, Susan Shriver and her family especially Jared, with whom she lived the last seven years of her life and who took care of her so lovingly. We also want to thank her great granddaughter, Ella Gilliam for the time she cared for her and the rides she took with her especially the ice cream runs that she loved.
Visitation will be 9:30-10:30 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am Friday, August 25 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church, Kansas City, KS. Committal service will be 12:30 pm Friday, August 25 at Leavenworth National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Patrick Catholic Church, 1086 N. 94th Street, Kansas City, KS 66112.
