Dorothy Marian Smith, 83, of Lenexa, Kansas, died at her home on September 10, 2010, after a long illness.
Dorothy was born September 6, 1927, the daughter of William (Sr.) and Janette Heinig of Milton, Wisconsin. She was preceded in death by her parents as well as her daughter Linda M. Smith. Her brother, William (Bud) Heinig, Jr. and her sister Pricilla Kinney also preceded her.
Before her marriage, she attended Salem College in Salem, West Virginia. On September 4, 1949, she married Kenneth E. Smith, Jr. and began a 61 year marriage partnership. She supported him through his education, ministry, and his career in academia and health care. She took pride in the careful management of her household and family. Her commitment to family also extended to her church family. She was an active member of the Nortonville (Kansas) Seventh Day Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; her son, D. Scott Smith and daughter-in-law Jean F. Smith of Salem; five grandchildren; Aaron, Kevin, Carlie, Amanda, and Heaven; great-grandson, William Hemminger; three sisters-in-law; and 13 nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service
A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, September 18, 2010, at the Nortonville Seventh Day Baptist Church, Nortonville, Kansas.
