Dorothy Marilyn (McGill) Webb, 98 of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away at home on the morning of December 25, 2022, with her daughter and granddaughter by her side.
Dorothy Webb was born on November 9th, 1924, in Wilmar, Minnesota, to Charles and Marjorie MCGill. She grew up in the Brookside neighborhood in Kansas City, Missouri, and graduated from Southwest High School at the age of 16 in 1941. She attended the University Of Kansas where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority and editor of The University Daily Kansan. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and later earned her Masters in Education from UMKC.
After graduation, Dorothy was the fashion editor for the department store Emery, Bird, and Thayer. Dorothy met the love of her life, Dr. George Farrell Webb when he removed her wisdom teeth. They married in April of 1962. Dorothy taught Journalism and English for the Center School District and later at Loretto in Kansas City.
Dorothy loved animals and gardening, and enjoyed reading into the wee hours of the morning every night. She and her daughter raised orphaned and injured animals for Lakeside Nature Center before releasing them into the wild. She had numerous stray cats and dogs who lived a wonderful life with her at the farm. She loved her family most of all. Her grandchildren, Seth and Heather, whom she helped raise were the light of her life. She looked forward to Christmas every year as it was her favorite holiday, and red was her favorite color. She spread light and goodness to everyone she met and was the most kind and gracious person.
She was preceded in death by her husband Farrell, parents Charles and Marjorie McGill, brother Charles McGill, sister Virginia Truog and grandson, Seth Kaplan.
She is survived by her daughter, Farrelee (Greg) Bilhimer, granddaughter, Heather Kaplan, and nieces, Dorothy Ebrite, Karen (Richard) Gray and Madeline Prelogar. There are also many great nieces, great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
We are eternally grateful for the wonderful, loving care we received from St. Luke’s Home Health and St. Luke’s Hospice. We are also eternally grateful for her caregivers; they were her true angels, giving her unconditional love and care daily.
