Dorothy C. Woods, 90, of Shawnee, Kansas passed away December 13, 2008 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Dorothy was born July 18, 1918 in Shawnee, Kansas. She worked in the grocery retail business until she retired. Dorothy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 327 for over 50 years. She served as Unit president from 1969 to 1970 and as the Second District President from 1974 to 1975 as well as several chairmanships on the department level. Dorothy was a member of the 8 and 40 , and the Eastern Star. She was a member of the Shawnee Presbyterian Church and an ordained deacon of the church. She wanted her family to know that she had done everything in life she wanted to do and had a full life.
She was preceded in death by her husband Wilbur Woods, son Clifford Sulzner and granddaughter Debra Miller Delaney. Dorothy is survived by two daughters Lori Hontz of Shawnee, Kansas and Sharon Lewis of Stanley, Kansas, 2 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Two sisters Carol Hill of Sutherland, Oregon; and Shirley Valentine of Holton City, Texas also survive her.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Legion Auxillary in care of Marlene VanBibber for the Scholarship fund.
Visitation and Funeral Service
Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, December 18th at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee, with an American Legion Auxillary memorial service to be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Friday, December 19, at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Burial will follow services at Pleasant View Cemetery.
