Dr. William Volkert Oothout

Dr. William Volkert Oothout, Jr., 80, Overland Park, KS passed away Saturday, Sept. 19, 2015 at Research Medical Center, Kansas City, MO.

Dr. Oothout was born August 29, 1935 in New Bedford, MA to William V. and Agnes V Oothout. He graduated from Boston University and Kansas City School of Dentistry in 1964. Dr. Oothout practiced dentistry in Overland Park for 46 years, retiring in 2010.

He was affectionately known to others as "Doc". He enjoyed gardening, classical music, playing guitar, golfing, watching the Royals and spending time with his loving family. He was a very active member at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Doc had two basset hounds he loved dearly, Chloe and Sadie.

Doc is survived by his wife of 55 years, Marilyn Oothout; five children, William V. (Sherri) Oothout, III, Lee's Summit, MO, Dr. Kevin B. Oothout, Nashville, TN, Monica J. Oothout, Overland Park, KS, Bruce G. Oothout, Overland Park, KS, and Melissa A. (Mark O'Connor) Oothout, Dunstable, MA; two sisters, Miriam Gurney, East Freetown, MA and Ruth Azerado, Bethesda, MD; and five grandchildren, Kyle, Hayden, Emma, Aubrey and Willis.

Memorial mass will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23 at the Church of the Holy Cross Catholic Church, Overland Park, KS.
