Duane “Spike” Spieker

July 13, 1932 — June 24, 2013

Duane Anthony "Spike" Spieker died Monday, June 24, 2013, from complications due to cancer. He passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family.

He was born to Lawrence and Viola Spieker, July 13, 1932, in Carroll, Iowa, was an Army veteran of the Korean War, and married his wife Audrey December 29, 1956. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Shawnee, Kansas. He spent his career at and retired as a supervisor from Honeywell FM&T, Kansas City. He was an avid motorcyclist and tractor enthusiast, and enjoyed many great friendships in the ROMEO riding club, the Greater Kansas City Area Two Cylinder Club, and other groups.

His father, Lawrence, wife, Audrey, and sister, Norma, preceded him in death. He is survived by his mother, Viola Spieker, of Manning, Iowa; brothers Jerry, Paul, Butch, Larry and Randy; sisters Rosie Vollstedt, Marilyn Popp, Carol Kral, Karen Wegner and Donna Mohr; children David (Nancy), Shawnee, Debbie Carter (Kevin), Kansas City, Kansas, Susie Richardson (Dave), Shawnee, Lori Meyer (Joe), Shawnee, Brian, of the home, Diane, Virginia Beach, Virginia, and Stacy, of the home; 18 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 27, 2013, at the Amos Family Funeral Home, where a Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 28, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 11311 Johnson Drive, Shawnee, Kansas. Entombment will immediately follow at Resurrection Mausoleum, 8321 Quivira Road, Lenexa, Kansas.

The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Catholic Community Hospice
