Earl Love

Earl Verne Love passed away on July 15, 2015 at Kansas City Hospice House after a brief hospitalization.

Earl was born April 12, 1927 in Marion, Indiana to Dane and Cleo Love. He married Geraldine J. Thomas, the girl next door on November 13, 1949 and was married for 52 years.

He was a Veteran of World War II having served in China and Korea. Earl moved his family to Shawnee in 1970. He was an active member of Shawnee United Methodist Church where he taught 2 & 3 year old Sunday School for 14 years and gave it up when he retired. He worked for ISC Industries, Dickinson Theaters and Johnson County Parks while in KC. He was an accountant and data processing supervisor before he retired in 1989. He was an Eagle Scout, member of the Order of the Arrow, and active with scouts over the years. He spent 13 months helping to renovate the Missouri City School after the flood of 1993. He was a handyman and did jobs without charge for anyone that needed help, all they had to do was ask. He was an Emergency Room volunteer at Shawnee Mission Medical Center for 18 years and Volunteer of the Year in 1992.

He is survived by two sons and their families. Bob (Sue) of Grandview, MO and Keith (Robin) of Topeka, KS. Four grandchildren, Angela (Chris) Schmidt of Lawrence, KS, James (Denise) Love of Leesville, LA, Karla (Nicholas) DeCoster of Olathe and Nathan Love of Overland Park, and three great-grandsons, Joe & Reed Schmidt and Benjamin DeCoster. A sister Darlene (Dale) Boen, Marion, IN and a brother Rev. Lyle Love of Portland, OR. Several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by his wife, both parents, a brother Dane and a sister Deardra.

Visitation from 4 to 6 PM on Sunday July 19 and a Celebration of Life will be at Amos Family Chapel in Shawnee 10901 Johnson Drive on Monday, July 20 at 10 AM. Burial at Shawnee Cemetery.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers memorials be sent to the Volunteer Fund at The Foundation for Shawnee Mission Medical Center, 7315 Frontage Rd, Ste 221, Shawnee Mission, KS 66204.
