Edgar H Neufeld

February 20, 1931 — February 20, 2024

Lenexa

Edgar Neufeld passed away peacefully on the evening of his 93rd birthday, on February 20, 2024. He was a resident of Lakeview Village Care Center, Lenexa, KS.

He was born in 1931 in Newton, KS, and grew up outside of Inman, KS. He graduated from Inman High School in 1949, where he was the senior class president and played multiple sports. He later graduated from Bethel College in Newton, KS, after having spent a year in the School of Business at the University of Kansas.

While at Bethel, singing with the a cappella choir, he met the love of his life, Barbara Brandt. They were married in 1954, and they enjoyed 60 years of marriage, prior to her death in 2014. They raised a family of three children, which eventually grew to 9 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. After raising their family, they greatly enjoyed travel, particularly on multiple trips to Europe. Favorites included hiking in the Swiss Alps, seeing the tulips bloom in the Netherlands, and cruising on the Rhine and Danube Rivers.

Ed’s career path led him to pharmaceutical sales, where he worked for Pfizer, Searle Labs, and Glaxo Inc. He garnered numerous awards over the years for his sales prowess. He had a lifelong passion for singing, in choirs throughout his youth, later with his churches, and also with the East Hill Singers in Kansas City. He was a member of Second Presbyterian Church in KC, MO, where he also had served as a deacon.

He remained very active throughout most of his life. He was very happy to have twice summited Longs Peak in Rocky Mountain National Park, (14, 259 ft). He ran many 10K races, and competed in decathlons and other track events through his 40s. He golfed for many years after that, only stopping when his health started to fail him.

He is survived by his children: Nancy Gatewood, Tim Neufeld, and Richard McLean Neufeld (Susan), grandchildren: Ellen and Carolyn Gatewood, Christopher Neufeld (Caroline), Lauren Fallon (Steven), Courtenay Davis (Andy), Laura Neufeld, Matthew Neufeld (Melanie), Michael Neufeld, and Jennifer Pearson (Keenan), great grandchildren: Gideon Neufeld, Savannah and Norah Fallon, Penny and Murray Davis, David and Margaret Neufeld. He is also survived by two sisters, Bert Krehbiel of Corn, OK, and Marna Neufeld of Moundridge, KS.

A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, February 24, 2024 at Heritage Activity Center, Lakeview Village, 9100 Park St, Lenexa, KS.
