Edith Marion Johnson, 95, of Lenexa, KS died Friday, October 1, 2021, at St. Luke’s South hospital. Born in Kansas City, KS on September 30, 1926, to David Austin and Alma Dee (McCamish) Ghrist, she lived in the Kansas City area most of her life.

Edith was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Albert, her parents, her sister Helen Barrington, and the father of her children, Dr. Lee Charles Berns.

Following her graduation from Argentine High School, Edie married Lee C. Berns. They resided in Argentine Kansas where Dr. Lee C. Berns opened his private dental practice, and they started their family. The family would later relocate to Lake Quivera, Kansas where they resided until Dr. Berns’ death.

A loving mother and homemaker, Edie was an incredible cook and enjoyed preparing family meals, cooking for events, and entertaining with both friends and family. She was thrilled to publish her own cookbook, Edie’s Delight!

Edie married Albert Johnson in 1984 and they were married until his death on December 31, 2018. Edie and Albert enjoyed traveling - visiting such locations as Yugoslavia, Kenya, and numerous other counties in Europe. Together, they loved gardening and eventually became a fixture at the Shawnee Market where people would come from all over for the homegrown tomatoes, homemade cookies and friendly conversation.

Edith is survived by her children, DeeAnna Lee Bray (Richard), Lee C. Berns, Jr. (Karen), Edith “Edie” E. Berns (Mark Grismore), David A. “DA” Berns (Kim); stepchildren Paula Johnson Gore and Albert Johnson, Jr. (Marta). She was proud of her extended family which includes 17 grandchildren, 37 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
