Edith Marie passed away on December 2, 2012, at the Atriums.

Edith was born in May, 1917, to Thomas and Grace Eliot in Koshkonong, Missouri. She grew up on a farm, but at her father’s urging pursued her education. She graduated from Koshkonong High School in 1935 and received her B.S. degree from Southwest Missouri State University in 1939. After teaching in southern Missouri for two years, she attended the University of Missouri at Columbia and received a Master’s degree in Elementary Education in 1941.

Edith worked for the F.W. Woolworth Company as a bookkeeper for five years, where she met the love of her life, Emery Kephart. After marrying Emery, Edith worked with church nursery school children for three years, Johnson County Library for five years, and retired after ten years at Central Arkansas Library System. After her retirement, she actively volunteered for Johnson County Library and Delmar Gardens Nursing Home. Edith and Emery were married for 63 years before Emery preceded her in death in 2004. Afterwards, Edith moved to the Atriums, where she wrote articles for The Echo, took classes and was involved in many activities.

Edith is survived by her two children and son-in-law, Kay and Randy Dean of Virginia City, Nevada, and Susan Kephart of Overland Park, Kansas.

A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, December 5, 2012, at Knox Presbyterian Church at 9595 W. 95th Street, Overland Park, Kansas.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be made to Knox Presbyterian Church, where the Kepharts were members since 1986, Johnson County Library, or Kansas City Hospice.
