Edith L. Mangun, 91, of Lenexa, Kansas, passed away May 12, 2010, surrounded by her loving family.
Edith was born March 2, 1919 in Cabool, Missouri, to Edwin Ainsworth and Edith Racine (Collins) DuBois. She attended school in Springfield, Missouri, graduating from high school in 1936. She earned her BS in education from Southwest Missouri State Teacher's College in 1940. Edith earned her Master's Degree in Music from Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois in 1945, after teaching in the Springfield, Missouri Public Schools.
On May 13, 1945, Edith was united in marriage to Dr. Clarke Wilson Mangun, Jr. From this union three daughters were born. She was a member of DAR, Mu Phi Epsilon Music Sorority, and the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge, Illinois for many years. While living in Lenexa, Kansas she attended the Church of the Resurrection.
She was the consummate, devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She supported Clarke through many relocations both domestic and abroad during his career in the Public Health Service, always settling the home, making new friends, and staying in touch with former colleagues. She was a leader in PHS Wives, organizing large scale events and projects. She supported her daughters with tutoring, music lessons, volunteering at school by sewing costumes, and driving interminably from place to place. She made certain that the family garden always had flowers. Always a woman of faith, she taught Sunday School, led women's Circles, and attended regularly at the First United Methodist Church of Park Ridge.
Edith was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Edwin Ainsworth DuBois, Jr. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Dr. Clarke W.
